Island Brač

DESTINATION

Bol, Milna, Vidova Gora, Monastery of Blaca

The island of Brač is the highest and third-largest island in the Adriatic Sea. With its rich cultural and historical heritage, natural beauty, and stunning beaches, it represents a true micro-continent.

Bol is the most famous town on Brač, and its global postcard is Zlatni Rat Beach—one of the Adriatic’s most recognisable natural phenomena.
The beach changes shape depending on the wind and currents, and the sea is incredibly clean, turquoise, and deep.

Bol is ideal for:

  • windsurfing and kitesurfing (one of Europe’s top locations)
  • fine dining
  • excellent boutique hotels and beach clubs
  • an active holiday (cycling, trekking, Vidova Gora—the highest peak of all Adriatic islands)

Bol is dynamic, yet refined.
It has the rhythm of modern Mediterranean elegance—without the chaos.

Milna is a charming small town tucked into a secluded bay on the western side of Brač, with a completely different character from Bol.

Milna is:

  • Brač’s nautical epicentre
  • a peaceful, authentic Dalmatian harbour
  • a blend of traditional architecture and luxury marinas

It’s ideal for people who love views of boats, quiet mornings, waterfront cafés, and local food.
There’s no loud party tourism—more of a “slow living” vibe.

From Milna, it’s quick and easy to reach Split, Hvar, and the Pakleni Islands by boat, which makes it a perfect base for exploring the entire archipelago.

Vidova Gora - The highest point on Brač and in the entire Adriatic. From Vidova Gora, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Bol, the famous Zlatni Rat beach, and the island of Hvar. It was named after Svantevid, a Slavic deity, and with the Christianization of the Croats, the name was later attributed to St. Vid in his honor. At the summit, you’ll find a cross, a TV tower, a tavern, the remains of an Illyrian fortress, and the ruins of the Romanesque Church of St. Vid from the 13th century.

Monastery of Blaca - Founded in 1551 by Glagolitic monks fleeing the Turkish invasion, the Blaca Monastery became a center for research and scholarship. Today, this now-abandoned monastery houses 12,000 old books, numerous maps, writings, sheet music, ethnographic exhibits, a printing press, a telescope, a piano, and more. What makes it especially fascinating is its picturesque location, built under a rock in a steep, hidden gorge in an uninhabited, rocky part of Brač, 3.5 km from the sea. There is no vehicle access—it can only be reached on foot, with the easiest route being from Kneževi Ravni. From Blaca, hiking trails marked to Nerežišće and Vidova Gora take about three hours to walk.

The stonemasonry craft in Pučišća

The stonemasonry craft in Pučišća - Several centuries old, as evidenced by the exhausted quarries, petrodes, and forges on the north side of Brač island, this craft remains an essential part of the island’s heritage. Despite centuries of extraction, the reserves of high-quality stone are still abundant. Since ancient times, Brač has been a source of exceptional stone used for prominent buildings.

Interesting fact: Unique in its beauty, Brač hides within its interior a fantastic stone as white as snow, which has shaped the architectural history of Dalmatia. It was used in the construction of Diocletian's Palace in Split, numerous Croatian cathedrals, and even world-famous landmarks such as the Parliament in Vienna and the Viceroy's Palace in Trieste.
