Čiovo

DESTINATION

Čiovo – A scenic island connected to Trogir, offering hidden coves and rich history

Located right next to the historic center of ancient Trogir, a UNESCO-protected city.

Čiovo is connected to the mainland by bridges. Its forests shelter numerous sacred sites, while its waters are home to a diverse marine life.

Swaying pine branches invite you to explore the tranquil waves they protect, while the island’s excellent tourist offerings provide plenty of opportunities for entertainment and recreation.

On the more secluded part of the island, among steep cliffs overlooking the sea, lies the Church of Our Lady of Prizidnica. Founded in the 16th century by Polish Glagolitic priests, it served as a hermitage for three centuries. Glagolitic priests and their students, mostly from Poljica but also from other regions, lived here. The site was damaged during World War II when German forces built bunkers, but the dedicated efforts of the islanders restored the sanctuary.
